The wine made from Chasselas grapes is affectionately called Fendant here in Valais. The name comes from the word fendre (French for split), as the Chasselas berry splits the skin from the flesh when pressed with a finger without the juice running out.
Fendant is a dry and mineral white wine with a fresh, lively aroma that is often described as soft and harmonious.
Fendant is highly appreciated as an aperitif wine. However, it also goes excellently with cheese specialties such as our Valais classics fondue and raclette.
